Can you imagine a structure that is visible from most parts of South Mumbai? This is the Doordarshan TV Tower, also known as the Worli Doordarshan Tower. Right in front of you, stands the impressive structure. Located in Worli, the tower is a steel lattice marvel. This red and white tower, the fourth tallest man-made structure in the Indian subcontinent, is an open latticework design. Standing tall at 300 meters (984 feet), it’s a beacon for the city. It has been a vital part of broadcasting for decades. In 1972, the tower was completed. This significant event was captured in a 32-minute documentary, ‘Tale of a Tower’, released by the Films Division of India. The documentary featured footage of the tower being topped out, showcasing the construction process. The Doordarshan TV Tower still stands proudly, a testament to the city’s vibrant history and its connection with the world through television.
