Education in South Korea has deep roots. Historically, Korean society valued learning. However, education was not widely available until after the Korean War. Before 1945, less than 20 percent of Koreans had formal education. The modern system is based on a 1968 charter. It identifies education as a key aspect of citizenship. The government ensures access to education for all children.

Confucianism also shaped Korean education. It promoted the idea that people can become better through learning. Education became a way to measure a person’s worth. The government plays a central role in education.

During the Chosun Dynasty having children pass the civil service exam was the way to success. Families invested heavily in private education and tutors. This shows the long-standing importance of education in Korea.

Today Donong High School stands as a symbol of resilience. It represents the enduring pursuit of knowledge. It also embodies the strength of the community. Donong High School is a testament to overcoming adversity.
