Dongcheng Subdistrict is one of Dongguan’s four subdistricts in Guangdong Province. It holds a significant place in the region.
In 1958, it was established as Fucheng Commune. Later, in 1983, the commune was changed to a district. Dongguan renamed Fucheng Subdistrict to Dongcheng Subdistrict in March 2000.
As of 2019, Dongcheng Subdistrict had a permanent population of around 500,000. The registered population was around 99,500. The subdistrict’s GDP reached ¥58.656 billion.
Dongcheng is divided into 23 residential communities and 2 living districts.
Major enterprises have a presence here in Dongcheng Subdistrict. These include Hsu Fu Chi, Rohm and Haas, and Wanshida LCD. CR Snow, Meiwei Circuits, and Guangrun Furniture also operate here. Tecsun and CYG Insulator Co. LTD add to the economic diversity.
Dongcheng Subdistrict is a hub for retail and office activity. Dongcheng Wanda Square, Dongcheng Shibo Square, and Xinghe City are major centers. You can also find Junhao Business Center and Yujing New Time Square here.
Getting around Dongcheng is convenient. The Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway pass through. Sixteen buses serve the center of the subdistrict.
Line 2 of the Dongguan Rail Transit has four stations in Dongcheng Subdistrict. These are Qifeng Park, Dongcheng, Xiaqiao, and Lihua Park. Line 2 connects to other major rail lines via Humen Station.
Qifeng Park is a prominent attraction in Dongcheng. It covers an area of 1,600 mu. Huangqi Mountain and Huangqi Guanyin Temple are highlights. Hiking is a popular activity here. Huangqi Mountain rises 189 meters above sea level. The Huangqi Guanyin Temple dates back to the Song dynasty. During Chinese New Year, people climb Huangqi Mountain.
Huying Country Park is another large park in Dongcheng Subdistrict. It spans 2,979 mu. It opened at the end of 2000. The park is largely hilly and forested. Huying Pavilion and Qingyou Gorge are popular sights. The island within the lake and Yunyu Bridge are worth seeing. Roman Pillar Forest and Huanhu Road offer scenic views. The Shaokaochang Sculpture Park features sculptures of military and scientific figures.
Liuhua Park was first built in the Ming dynasty. It reopened in 1999. The primary attraction is the Liuhua Pagoda, also built in the Ming dynasty. A memorial pavilion commemorates the first armed resistance to the Japanese occupation in 1938.
The Dongcheng Culture Square is a multi-functional venue. It includes a 1,300-seat theatre, a gym, a library, and an open-air music fountain.
