“Dongchang Road Flyover. What a bland name.” That’s what you might think. But there is more than meets the eye.

Welcome to the Dongchang Road Flyover. Today, we will explore some interesting facts about flyovers in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen is known for its “Shenzhen Speed.” This refers to the city’s rapid development. One example of Shenzhen Speed is the dismantling of the Huangmugang Flyover. It stood in Futian District. In just nine days, 1,500 workers dismantled it. The flyover was 1,544 meters long. It contained 14,619 cubic meters of concrete.

The dismantling project usually takes six months. The success was due to meticulous preparation. Technicians used BIM. Building Information Modeling simulated the process. The simulation numbered every flyover part. It specified vehicle routes to prevent collisions. Professionals carried out four rounds of scenario planning.

The Huangmugang project employed 2,340 vehicles. About 30 cranes were used. Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) were also used. These motorized vehicles move slowly. They carry large structures like bridges. 240 SPMT axles were used. That was one-fifth of all SPMTs in China. It was the first time so many SPMTs were used in a Chinese construction project. Each SPMT axle can carry 35 tons.

Leaders from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen Metro Group, and CRTG visited the site. They greeted the workers during the Spring Festival holiday. Four meals were delivered daily to the workers. Dumplings were prepared for them on Chinese New Year’s Eve.

The renovated roads became a transport hub. It integrated Metro lines 7, 14, and 24.

Another significant infrastructure project is the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. This bridge-tunnel connects Shenzhen and Zhongshan. It is 49.7 kilometers long. It has eight lanes. Construction began in May 2017. It opened on June 30, 2024. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link cuts travel time. Travel time from Shenzhen to Zhongshan is now less than 30 minutes.

Dongbin Road is another major road in Shenzhen. It runs east-west in Nanshan. It connects to Hong Kong via the Shenzhen Bay Bridge. A large portion of the Dongbin Tunnel runs under Dongbin Road.

As you can see, Shenzhen is a city of constant change. The Dongchang Road Flyover stands as a testament. It shows Shenzhen’s commitment to progress. Thank you for joining us on this tour.
