The Dolly Party Sculpture embodies artistic expression. It enriches Nice’s public art. The city of Nice promotes art in its neighborhoods. It uses both temporary and permanent works. These can be paintings or sculptures.
Patrick Moya created the Dolly Party Sculpture. He is a French artist born in 1955. Moya uses painting, sculpture and drawing. He also uses ceramics, live painting and digital art.
The Dolly sculpture was created in 1999. It was inspired by the cloned sheep Dolly. Over the years, Dolly has become central to Moya’s art. The Dolly Party Sculpture is blue. It was installed with help from Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d’Azur.
The Dolly is the guest of honor at Dolly Parties. These parties raise money for charity. They take place in the South of France. Place du Pin hosts these events with the LGBTQIA+ center. Place du Pin sits behind the port. Rue Bonaparte starts here. This street has become a hub of Nice’s nightlife.
Moya studied art at Villa Arson in Nice. He drew inspiration from many sources. He presented paintings and sculptures at MAMAC. Later, he explored abstraction.
Moya created an alter-ego named Dolly. He exhibited Dolly in Italy and the Maritime Alps. He has worked with the Masséna museum. Recently, he collaborated with Christian Dior.
The Dolly Party is a famous electro party. It started in 1997. In 2022, the Dolly Party turned 25. Moya creates a drawing for each Dolly Party flyer. He also paints large canvases. Sometimes he adds video projections.
The Dolly Party Sculpture serves as a symbol. It represents the spirit of Nice. It is inclusive and welcoming. It reflects the beauty of the city. The sculpture enlivens Place du Pin. The inauguration of the Dolly Party Sculpture took place on June 16, 2023. Patrick Moya and Patrick Pozuelos attended. Editions Baie des Anges published a book. The book is titled “Moya et la Dolly Party”. Franck Michel and Macha Sosno also attended.
The Bal du Ruban Rouge was created by Patrick from the Dolly Party. It aims to raise awareness. It supports health actions for the LGBTQIA+ community. Donations go to the Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d’Azur.
The Dolly Party has appeared at the Carnaval de Nice. It also appeared at the Radium Art Center in Busan, Korea. This was for an “Ecole de Nice” exhibition.
