The Irish Times reported on the bombing of Dublin on May 31, 1941. One of the bombs fell near the Zoo, in the vicinity of the Dog Pond pumping works. The blast even shook Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence of the Irish President. While the bomb missed its intended target, it left a lasting mark on Phoenix Park, creating the crater that eventually filled with water, forming what we now know as Dog Pond.
