Dobbs Hall

Nestled in the heart of the Emory University campus stands Dobbs Hall. It’s a place brimming with stories, a witness to generations of students. Dobbs Hall isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant hub, a home away from home for countless first-year students. This historic residence hall is perfectly positioned near the academic quad, the Emory Student Center, Dobbs Common Table, and Cox Hall. Residents appreciate the tight-knit community fostered within its walls, along with the cozy former parlor and the enclosed courtyard spaces. Dobbs Hall embraces diversity, housing students in both single-gender floors and coed grouped-gender floors. Inside, you’ll find double rooms equipped with community bathrooms, a sink and mirror in each room, and wardrobes for storage. Each room includes a medium loft bed, dresser, desk, and chair, along with digital and cable TV hookups. The hall itself provides community kitchens with vending machines on the first floor, and lounges for TV viewing and studying on the third floor and in the courtyard. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on the second floor and wireless internet keeps everyone connected. Interestingly, Dobbs Hall is one of the original dormitories on Emory’s Druid Hills campus. It was named after Samuel Candler Dobbs, a nephew of Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler. Samuel Dobbs himself served as president of the Coca-Cola Company from 1919 to 1920. He even hosted the annual Coca-Cola Convention for a photo opportunity in front of the hall in January 1920. Over the years, Dobbs Hall has seen the campus transform around it. From its vantage point, it has witnessed the construction of new buildings, the expansion of facilities, and the constant flow of students coming and going. It stands as a testament to Emory’s growth and evolution, a silent observer of the university’s rich history.
