Gazing at Divine Saviour Catholic Church, can you hear the echoes of its 117-year history? Divine Saviour Catholic Church stands as a testament to faith and community in the heart of Los Angeles. It has served Cypress Park since 1907. Originally built for Polish railroad workers, it later embraced Italian and Latino communities. The current church, built in 1965, marks 59 years of service. Divine Saviour has been a cornerstone, offering pastoral care, sacraments, education, and spiritual guidance. In 2022, the church celebrated a century of educational service. Its bells, silent for seven years, were restored in 2006. They chime six times a day, starting at 7:55 a.m. This has been a source of both joy and contention within the community. Some see the chimes as a beautiful, traditional reminder of faith, a community clock. Others find them disruptive. The church holds daily Mass in Spanish at 8:15 a.m. and Saturday Vigil Mass in English at 5:00 p.m. Sunday Masses are offered in both Spanish and English, with Spanish services at 6:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 7:15 p.m., and an English service at 8:00 a.m. Confession is available Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. and on First Fridays at 4:00 p.m. or by appointment. Divine Saviour Catholic Church continues to be a vibrant hub, supporting its community through thick and thin.
