Gazing at the Ditib Merkez Camii, can you hear the echoes of prayers? This mosque isn’t just a building. It’s a story woven into the fabric of Münster. The Ditib Merkez Camii stands proudly at Bremer Platz, a beacon for the Turkish Muslim community. Its story begins in 1985 with a small community on Grevener Street. They yearned for a dedicated space, a spiritual home. In 1986, they found it at Bremer Platz. The community thrived, but the prayer hall in the basement became too small. A dream began to take shape: a larger, more accessible space. This dream began to materialize on February 8, 2009, with the symbolic laying of the cornerstone for a new Ditib Merkez Camii. By September, the exterior was nearly complete. The first Friday prayer in the new building took place on December 27, 2009. The official inauguration followed on May 20, 2010. The celebration included dignitaries like Mayor Markus Lewe, DITIB Münster Chairman Mustafa Dayioglu, Turkish Consul General Gürsel Evren, and representatives from various religious and political spheres. The Ditib Merkez Camii is a four-story building, crowned with a shimmering silver dome and a 15-meter minaret. The beige exterior is accented by sandstone panels around the prayer hall. Inside, the prayer hall, adorned with a stunning dome, accommodates around 300 worshippers. An elevator provides access to the upper floors, making it Germany’s first barrier-free mosque. The women’s section is located on an upper gallery. Colorful Kütahya faience tiles, predominantly blue, decorate the prayer hall. Floral motifs and Turkish calligraphy adorn the walls, the pulpit, and the mihrab. Intricate designs embellish the dome’s base and apex, culminating in a beautiful calligraphy at its highest point.
