Let’s step back in time to understand the foundation of Jaipur itself. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II founded Jaipur on November 18 1727. He ruled from 1699 to 1743. Amber was his capital before Jaipur. It was about 11 km away. The king wanted to shift the capital due to population increase and water scarcity.

Jaipur is known as India’s first planned city. The king himself took great interest in its design. He consulted books on architecture and many architects. Jai Singh wanted to ensure the city’s security. He used his knowledge of science and culture in its construction. Vidyadhar Bhattacharya a Brahmin scholar assisted him. He was an expert in mathematics and science from Bengal. Vidyadhar used ancient Indian texts on astronomy. He also used books by Ptolemy and Euclid.

The construction of Jaipur began in 1727. It took about four years to complete the major palaces and roads. The city was designed using Vastu Shastra principles. Jaipur was divided into nine blocks. Two blocks were for state buildings and palaces. The other seven were for the public. Huge walls and seven strong gates secured the city. People believed it was the best architecture in India at that time.

In 1878 the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur. The city was painted pink to welcome him. This is how Jaipur got its name “Pink City”. Even today state buildings and historical places are painted pink. This maintains the charm of the historic era.

Now let’s focus on the history of the District and Sessions Court Jaipur Metropolitan. Shri Lehar Singh Mehta became the First District Judge of Jaipur City on May 11 1950.
