The Natural History Museum in Berlin houses many dinosaur fossils. It has the largest mounted dinosaur skeleton in the world. It is a Giraffatitan.
The museum’s dinosaur hall is amazing. The Giraffatitan skeleton is from the Tendaguru beds of Tanzania. German paleontologist Werner Janensch recovered the bones. This happened between 1909 and 1913.
The Giraffatitan is 13.27 metres tall. It’s an impressive sight. The long-tailed herbivore probably weighed 50 tonnes when alive.
Another highlight is the Archaeopteryx. It is a transitional fossil. It shows the link between reptiles and birds. The “Berlin Specimen” is the most complete one discovered. It was found in the Solnhofen limestone beds in 1871.
The museum also has an Allosaurus cast. Allosaurus fragilis was a large carnivore. It lived during the Upper Jurassic period.
