Two stark figures reach towards each other, frozen in time. This is Die Begegnung, a bronze statue created by Waldemar Otto in 1985. Die Begegnung translates to “The Encounter.” The Kreissparkasse Hannover commissioned this piece to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Hanover region. Notice how incredibly slender the figures are. They almost seem to defy gravity. The two figures are set against the backdrop of the Haus der Region Hannover, located at Hildesheimer Strasse 18. This sculpture is a powerful symbol of connection and interaction. It speaks to the human need for community and understanding. Die Begegnung stands as a reminder of the region’s history and its enduring spirit.
