Imagine the exquisite craftsmanship of a Diapason speaker. Its beauty transcends mere audio technology. It’s a testament to Italian artistry. The Diapason story begins not in a factory but in the heart of a musician. Alessandro Schiavi. A man passionate about truthful music reproduction. He studied piano and organ composition. He worked in Brescia the heart of Diapason. This city boasts violin makers. They continue a tradition started by Gasparo da Salò. His instruments were more sought after than those from Cremona.

Schiavi’s journey began from musician to recording engineer. Then to speaker designer. He was only 17 when he started recording music. He worked in baroque churches and theatres. He even studied electrical engineering at 15. It’s no surprise he worked for Fonè Audio Review and Suono record labels. His first speaker the Prelude was a square box. It was a reference monitor. It launched commercially in 1987.

The cabinet making is another crucial element of the Diapason story. The cabinets are made in Sarcedo a traditional Italian town. It’s between Venice and Verona. The Coppiello family crafts the cabinets. They create some of the most beautiful loudspeaker cabinets. Loris Coppiello his wife and daughter work tirelessly. They fulfill much of Diapason’s cabinet needs. They proudly display 50-year-old horn prototypes. They were developed by Loris’s father-in-law. They are for a highly efficient loudspeaker system for an amusement park. Next to this stands a tower of Adamantes 25th Edition cabinets. These are almost ready for shipment. The process involves many meticulous stages. Much of it is done by hand. They use cotton netting inside. This is an old trick by furniture makers. It reduces movement and resonance.

Loris initially used Italian chestnut. However he switched to American Canaletto walnut. This is ridiculously expensive. Many companies would not even consider it. But Diapason customers prioritize quality of music over price. Alessandro’s design process continues. He does this even after others might consider their work complete. A new model can take eight years to develop. This is due to meticulous fine-tuning.

Finding Loris was a fortunate event. He fell in love with Alessandro’s cabinet design. The perfect team was created. He assembles each piece with great care. He respects the time taken for the timber to settle. This is a lengthy process. It takes patience and skill to create the diamond-shaped cabinet. It’s perfect to the eye and silky smooth to the touch. Alessandro searched Italy for craftsmen. He needed someone to handle his unconventional designs. They have worked together for 30 years.

The Diapason’s story is one of passion and dedication. It blends musicality with masterful woodworking. It embodies the essence of Italian artistry and innovation. It’s more than just a speaker. It’s a piece of art. A testament to a harmonious blend of music and craftsmanship.
