The Diamond Court’s official name is the National Tennis Stadium. Many know it by its nickname, the Diamond Court. Opened in 2011, the Diamond Court quickly became a popular venue. It seats 15000 people. The Diamond Court has a retractable roof. This allows play to continue regardless of the weather.
Located in the Chaoyang district, the Diamond Court is part of the China National Tennis Center. This center is near the National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest. The tennis center spans over 41 acres. It includes 12 competition courts. There are also 35 training courts.
The China Open moved to this center in 2009. Before that, the tournament was held at the Beijing Tennis Center. The Diamond Court is the main court of the China National Tennis Center. Other courts include the Lotus Court and the Moon Court.
Before the Olympics, all courts except the National Tennis Stadium opened in 2007. They were tested during the Good Luck Beijing 2007 ITF Pro Circuit.
