Once upon a time, Desheng Subdistrict was part of Zhenghuang Banner during the Qing dynasty. It was then part of the Northern City. In 1912, it transitioned into the North Suburban District. By 1949, it fell under the 16th District. A further shift occurred in 1952, making it part of Xisi District.
The year 1958 marked a significant change. It was created as Deshengmenwai Subdistrict. It was transferred under Xicheng District. It was later renamed Dewai Subdistrict. Finally, in 2004, it received its current name, Desheng Subdistrict.
The name “Desheng” is derived from Deshengmen. Deshengmen translates to “Gate of Virtuous Triumph”. This gate was once part of Beijing’s city wall. Sadly, it was demolished. However, its legacy lives on in the name of this subdistrict.
In 2020, the population of Desheng Subdistrict was 116,338. The population density was about 28,000 people per square kilometer. This makes it a bustling and lively part of Beijing.
Desheng Subdistrict covers an area of 4.1 square kilometers. Within this area are many communities.
These communities include Andelunan and Andelubei. Also, there are Deshengli and Dewai Dajiexi. You’ll also find Xinming Jiayuan and Xinfeng Zhongzhi. Other communities are Xinwai Dajiebei and Xinkang. Madian, Rendinghu Xili, and Huangsi Dajiexi are also here. Don’t forget Shuangqigan and Beiguang.
