“On what foundations is our society built?” A question students at the Department of Political Science in Muenster grapple with daily. The Department of Political Science is part of the University of Muenster. It stands as a vibrant hub for research and learning. The institute is located within Department 06 of the University of Muenster.
The managing director is Prof. Dr. Bernd Schlipphak. The deputy director is Prof. Dr. Ulrich Willems.
The Institute for Political Science has played a leading role in European research. It actively participated in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Framework Programs. These programs include “Women in European Universities”. It also includes the “Civil Society and New Forms of Governance”. “Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation” is another. The “Third Sector European Policy” and “Welfare innovation at the local level” are also included.
The Muenster University team cooperates with other institutions for specific tasks. These are the Social Science Research Center Berlin and the Institute for Non-profit Law at the Bucerius Law School. The Network for Civic Engagement in Berlin is another partner. The Department of Political Science also examines barriers to third sector development.
The Institute for Political Science has expansive expertise. This relates to third party governance and volunteering. It is involved in a Master Program on Non-profit Management and Governance. The institute participates in the German government’s strategy. This aims to strengthen civic engagement. Since 2012, it has served as the umbrella. Beth Lovelady successfully defended her PhD thesis on October 19, 2024. Her thesis was titled “A Tale of two Cities: Migrant Integration as Policy Field in Seattle & Cologne”. She was supervised by Prof. Anette Zimmer and Prof. Steven Rathgeb Smith.
