The department has constantly adapted to the changing media world, reflecting the industry’s trends and academic advancements. In 2018, it was renamed the Department of Media and Communication Studies, solidifying its commitment to a holistic approach to media education. The Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Malaya offers a wide range of academic programs. The Bachelor of Media Studies provides comprehensive training in areas like journalism, broadcasting, and new media. The Master of Media Studies caters to recent graduates and working professionals seeking advanced knowledge and skills. Charles Mohan, CEO of Institut Onn Jaafar, and a former broadcast journalist, is another distinguished alumnus.
