In 2018, it was renamed the Department of Media and Communication Studies, solidifying its commitment to a holistic approach to media education. The Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Malaya offers a wide range of academic programs. The Bachelor of Media Studies provides comprehensive training in areas like journalism, broadcasting, and new media. Charles Mohan, CEO of Institut Onn Jaafar, and a former broadcast journalist, is another distinguished alumnus. Rosli Mohd Noordin, an award-winning broadcast journalist and producer for RTM, also hails from this department.
