Want to understand the engine that drives Timor-Leste’s future? It is right here at the Departamento Mecanica. This department is part of the Dili Institute of Technology or DIT. DIT was started on May 10 2002. It is a private non-profit school. It uses the motto “matenek nodi serbii” meaning educated to serve.
The Departamento Mecanica trains students in mechanical engineering. The goal is to give students a strong base. This base includes math, science and engineering. Students learn to solve engineering problems. They gain general knowledge of mechanical engineering basics. This is called Fundamental Knowledge.
Students learn to use data and tech ideas to design products. They use their skills and tech to solve problems. They adapt to different situations. This is called Professional Skills. The Departamento Mecanica lets students work in teams. They tackle projects that cross different subjects. This builds Leadership Skills. The department prepares students for jobs. These jobs meet the needs of companies both local and global. This provides Technical and Managerial Skills.
Students learn about lifelong learning. They learn about ethics and professional codes. This covers Ethics and Life-long Learning. The Departamento Mecanica teaches students to use computers. They solve problems and show their work. They use word processing and spreadsheets. They use design and analysis software. They learn to find and use info on the internet. This is Computational Skills.
Graduates are expected to succeed. They use what they learn in their jobs. This is especially true in manufacturing, energy conversion and cars. Graduates grow in their careers. They study engineering and get professional licenses. Some move into other fields. Graduates serve their professional groups. They also help their local and global communities.
The broad education helps them understand. They see how engineering affects the world. This includes the economy, environment and society. Students know they must keep learning. They improve their reasoning skills in mechanical engineering. This applies to the world and their own lives. They learn as individuals and as a community. Students know about current issues. They know the latest tech and innovations in mechanical engineering.
Students understand business and entrepreneurship. They create business and marketing plans. They may start their own businesses. They are responsible for their own work. They may employ other people.
The skills learned are key. Students use math, science and engineering knowledge. They design and run experiments. They analyze data. They design systems and components. They meet needs while considering costs. They think about the environment, society and ethics. They consider health, safety and sustainability. Students work in diverse teams. They identify and solve engineering problems. They use modern tools for engineering work.
Students become responsible people. They learn to communicate well. This includes writing, speaking and multimedia. They include engineering ethics in their work. This relates to the role of tech in society. Mr. Lidio Freitas is the Chief of Mechanical Engineering Department. He can be contacted via if_lidio@yahoo.com or 670 77045123. The Departamento Mecanica shapes Timor-Leste’s future. It trains skilled engineers. They are ready to serve their country.
