Established in 1991, Deokwon Arts High School stands as a beacon for aspiring artists. It is located in Gangseo-gu in western Seoul. The school fosters creativity and talent.
Deokwon Arts High School opened its doors in 1992. The first class included 250 students. Fifty were in Applied Music. One hundred studied Music. Another hundred focused on Art. That same year, it was designated a special purpose high school. This solidified its commitment to arts education.
Fast forward to 1994. The school expanded with additional classrooms. Eighteen new special rooms provided space for growing programs. More construction followed in 2001. This added twenty-eight special rooms. These expansions accommodated the increasing demand for specialized arts education at Deokwon Arts High School. In 2009 the main building got an additional floor.
Deokwon Arts High School offers specialized departments. These include Applied Music, Music, and Art. Students receive focused training in their chosen fields.
In 2016, the school’s legal foundation changed to Woojung Academy. That same year, Nakil Soon became the chairman. In 2023, Deokwon Arts High School celebrated its 29th graduation. The total number of graduates reached 6,876. Also in 2023, Lee Young-cheol became the fifth principal. The 32nd entrance ceremony was held.
Deokwon Arts High School encourages international experiences for its students. Principal Kim In-jeong wants students to learn on the world stage. A partnership with Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance helps achieve this goal.
In July 2023, Boyer held auditions at Deokwon. Fourteen students auditioned. They had already won an intramural competition. Kim Su-jin, a piano major, found the audition helpful. Lee Han, studying musical composition, wants to explore orchestration and modern techniques.
Steven Kreinberg, Vice Dean at Boyer College, emphasized collaboration. Students and teachers learn about Temple University. Temple learns about them. Andrew Eisenhart, an international student recruitment specialist, values the cultural diversity these students bring.
Deokwon Arts High School continues to thrive. It provides a nurturing environment for young artists. Its partnership with Temple University opens new doors. This allows students to pursue their dreams on an international stage. The school’s commitment to artistic excellence remains steadfast.
