What secrets does a patch of green hold? At first glance, Denison Park, nestled between 11th and Quebec Street, seems like a typical Denver park. But beneath its grassy surface and towering trees lie stories of transformation and community spirit. Denison Park wasn’t always a place of leisure. It once served a very different purpose, as a Denver Water facility. The southeastern corner of the park holds the memory of this former life. The transformation didn’t happen overnight. In 2016, the city of Denver began the process of reclaiming this space. They envisioned a park where the community could gather, play, and connect with nature. The project involved removing an old asphalt parking lot, a relic of the site’s industrial past, and replacing it with vibrant, irrigated turf. This ambitious undertaking wasn’t without its challenges. The land’s history required careful consideration. The Department of Environmental Health conducted hazardous materials testing. This ensured the park’s future use would be safe for everyone. Em Dub Design stepped in to manage this two-phase project, navigating the complexities of coordinating with various departments and individuals. A unique aspect of Denison Park’s rebirth was the Bermuda grass pilot project. This added a layer of complexity. The availability of the grass created a time-sensitive situation, demanding swift action. Em Dub Design rose to the occasion. They expedited the development of construction plans, the bidding process, and the implementation of a materials management plan, all while collaborating with an on-call contractor for CABI services and construction. Today, Denison Park stands as a testament to the power of vision and collaboration. What was once a utilitarian space is now a vibrant green oasis. It is a place where the community can enjoy the simple pleasures of nature.
