Picture this Delingsdorf a charming village nestled in Schleswig-Holstein. Imagine a place where history whispers through the rustling leaves of ancient trees. Delingsdorf boasts a rich past dating back to 1327. That’s when it was first mentioned in official records. Count Johann der Milde traded land with the Reinfeld monastery. The area was then largely covered by forest and swampland. Over centuries the forest was cleared making way for farmland and homes.

Delingsdorf’s name itself is a fascinating journey. It likely evolved from a personal name “Dedelow” common during Frankish settlement in the 12th and 13th centuries. The village’s name changed frequently reflecting its shifting history and inhabitants. By 1389 Delingsdorf paid taxes to the Hamburg Cathedral Chapter. The Heest noble family from Tremsbüttel bought it in 1475.

An old map from 1774 shows Delingsdorf as a planned village centered around a village green. The map also indicates the schoolhouse now a kindergarten and the still-existing “Bauernteich” farmers pond. Delingsdorf’s first school opened in 1686 lasting until 1966. By 1855 the village had 320 residents and 80 schoolchildren. Landowners held varying amounts of land.

World War II brought significant change to Delingsdorf. Many refugees and people displaced from bombed-out Hamburg found shelter here. The population skyrocketed. In 1936 there were only 426 people. After the war it surged to 1026. Delingsdorf transformed from an agricultural village into a residential community part of the Hamburg metropolitan area. Convenient transportation links fueled this change.

Today Delingsdorf thrives. It has a kindergarten a community center and a fire station. The village also has a thriving local community. It is known for its strawberry farms and horse breeding. This charming village is a testament to its resilient people and rich history. Delingsdorf a village where the past and present peacefully coexist.
