Here stands Deer Park United Methodist Church. Its story is deeply woven into the fabric of this community. Let’s journey back to the late 1930s.
Methodists began gathering in the post office then. It was a humble start. In 1940, the church was officially organized. Can you imagine only 100 people in Deer Park that year?
By 1946, the first church building was erected. The congregation quickly grew. By 1958, plans were underway for expansion.
The year 1962 marked a significant milestone for Deer Park United Methodist Church. A new sanctuary opened on Fourth Street. Soon after, in 1966, a two-story education building followed. Space became limited at the Fourth Street site over time.
On July 16, 1989, ground was broken for the current sanctuary. This was a pivotal moment. The first worship service in the new building happened in July 1990. It marked the church’s 50th anniversary.
Look toward the Memory Chapel. It’s located inside this main building. It holds cherished artifacts from the Fourth Street sanctuary. These include the pulpit, pews, and three stained-glass windows. They connect the present to the past.
In 2001, the Family Life Center opened. This accommodated the growing youth program. It also served the Methodist Weekday School. By 2004, a casual worship service met here on Sunday mornings. It started at 8:30 am.
Deer Park United Methodist Church also houses the Deer Park Community Food Pantry. It is located at 1300 E. 13th Street. You can enter through the East Parking Lot. The entrance is closest to East Blvd. The Food Pantry operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is open from 10 am to 2 pm.
Today, Deer Park United Methodist Church continues to thrive. It offers Sunday School at 9:00 AM. Worship service follows at 10:00 AM. Both in-person and online options are available.
