David Kaplan and Ravi DeRossi are the bar’s owners. This wasn’t Kaplan’s first foray into hospitality. It is said he started in the business at the tender age of 13.
Death & Company quickly became a must-visit destination. Cocktail enthusiasts flocked here. The bar won America’s Best Cocktail Bar and World’s Best Cocktail Menu awards. These accolades came from Tales of the Cocktail.
Death & Company is known for its lengthy cocktail menu. Before 2016, the menu boasted about 50 selections. The list was later shortened to 30. Death & Company helped lead the craft cocktail movement. The bar originated cocktails like the Naked and Famous.
The team at Death & Company is supremely talented. They have a creative bar staff. Their menus are uniquely innovative. Death & Company New York is the birthplace of iconic modern drinks.
In 2016, Death & Company announced expansion plans. The first branch opened in Denver, Colorado, at the Ramble Hotel. In 2023, plans to open a Seattle location were revealed. Death & Company has become a national name.
Kaplan partnered with Ravi DeRossi, owner of Bourgeois Pig, to create Death & Company. The bar debuted on New Year’s Eve 2006/2007. Its location was just a block from Bourgeois Pig. Alex Day started as a swing shift bartender. He quickly rose through the ranks. Kaplan and Day founded Proprietors LLC, a cocktail consulting firm, in 2008. In 2010, Day became a partner in Death & Company.
Death & Company and Proprietors merged in September 2018. The resulting company became Gin & Luck.
