Dearborn Hills Golf Course was established in 1923. Robert Herndon a prominent local developer built it. He was also a benefactor to the city. After Robert Herndon died in 1986, his widow gave the course to the city.
Dearborn Hills is reputed to be Michigan’s oldest public golf course. It stands proudly in the State Register of Historic Sites. This course is owned and operated by the City of Dearborn Parks & Recreation Department.
In the summer of 1991, Dearborn Hills closed for a major facelift. A nearly 5 million dollar renovation and expansion transformed the course. It emerged as Michigan’s Best Public Golf Course. This award was given by Detroit Newsreaders. Golf Digest recognized it as well. It gave Dearborn Hills 3.5 stars in its “Best Places To Play”.
Dearborn Hills boasts 18 holes. The course has a par of 60. It measures 4495 yards. It offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels.
In 1995, a majestic clubhouse was added. This 7000-square-foot building features a traditional brick design. It offers stunning views of the first and tenth tees. The clubhouse includes a grill and bar. It has a Pro Shop, snack bar, and outdoor patio. The patio has tables and chairs. It is the perfect place to relax after a game.
