Established in 1893 Dearborn High School stands proudly before you. Its history is rich and layered. The original building a humble structure near Mason Street and Garrison Avenue served the community for decades. Imagine students walking to class in the early 1900s. They attended classes in a building with just eight rooms.

Then came growth. An auditorium and gymnasium were added in 1920 expanding the school’s capacity. The original building however became inadequate. A larger three-story building with 40 classrooms was erected in 1925. It could accommodate 900 students a significant increase. This new Dearborn High School served students until 1956.

A major milestone arrived in 1956. Dearborn High School moved to its current location on Outer Drive. The old building was transformed into Ray H Adams Junior High School. It later became part of an office complex. The relocation symbolized the school’s ongoing adaptation and expansion.

Dearborn High School’s legacy extends beyond its brick and mortar. Its theater program is one of Michigan’s oldest. It boasts a continuous history within the city. The International Thespian Troupe No 586 chartered in 1944 thrives there. George Peppard a famous actor was a Dearborn High graduate. The school’s commitment to the arts continues to this day.

The school’s athletic teams known as the Pioneers have achieved remarkable success. They have won 11 state championships in five different sports. Six of these championships were in boys swimming. The Pioneers boast many conference district and regional titles. Their fierce rivalry with Edsel Ford and Fordson High Schools is legendary. The rivalry extends beyond sports sometimes involving charitable events.
