The area, known as Wittekamp, transformed into a residential haven, embracing the architectural spirit of the Backsteinexpressionismus era. De-Haën-Platz, nestled amidst this burgeoning neighborhood, became a quiet testament to this unique architectural style. Imagine the scene: sturdy brick buildings rising around the Platz, their facades reflecting the post-war optimism and a move toward modern living. De-Haën-Platz isn’t just a square; it’s a time capsule, preserving the essence of 1920s Hannover. The Wohnanlage am De-Haën-Platz, as it is known, stands as a prominent example of the Backsteinexpressionismus style, which favored brick as its primary material and incorporated elements of expressionist design. This style, prevalent in Hannover during the 1920s and 1930s, can be seen throughout the city, but De-Haën-Platz offers a particularly well-preserved glimpse into this architectural period. In 2023, De-Haën-Platz continued its evolution, temporarily transforming into a vibrant pop-up park. This project, known as Sommerstraße, infused the Platz with new life, adding green spaces and fostering community engagement. The Lister Nachbarschaft, a non-profit organization, orchestrated workshops and urban gardening projects, creating a dynamic community hub.
