What whispers does the wind carry along the Folsom Trail? They speak of “Daylight,” a vibrant mural breathing life into Salt Lake City’s urban landscape. The Daylight Mural stretches 275 feet eastward from 1000 West, a splash of color on an industrial building. This isn’t just paint on a wall. It’s a story woven in blue lines and circles, representing the flow of water and the dance of clouds. The Daylight Mural echoes the city’s efforts to bring sections of City Creek back to the surface, a process called daylighting. Artists Miguel Galaz, Alan Ochoa, and Luis Novoa of Roots Art Kollective poured their vision into this artwork. Their design, chosen from over 30 proposals, connects to the heart of the City Creek at Folsom Trail project. This project aims to transform a former rail corridor into a vibrant community space for the Euclid and Poplar Grove neighborhoods. The mural’s creation was a community effort, supported by organizations like the Seven Canyons Trust, the RDA, and the Salt Lake City Arts Council. At the unveiling, Mayor Erin Mendenhall celebrated the Daylight Mural. She saw it as a key part of making the Folsom Trail a beloved gathering place, connecting residents with nature and each other.
