Under the warm Mumbai sun stands Dargah Qutbul-u-Auliya. This is more than just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to Hazrat Al-Haj Sufi Syed Mansur-ul-Hasan Shah Quadri. A freedom fighter and spiritual leader. He lived among us until 1996.

Dargah Qutbul-u-Auliya is a heart of the Sufi tradition. It embodies the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Hazrat Mansur-ul-Hasan Shah exemplified this. He was known for his kindness. He warned against false miracles. He stressed seeking help from doctors for illness. Not supernatural means. He even took public transport like everyone else.

His life was a journey. Born around 1906 in Norval. Now part of Pakistan. He was a handsome child. Gentle and curious. He married young but loved to travel. He joined Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj. He fought for India’s freedom. The war ended. India gained freedom but faced partition. A time of uncertainty and loss.

He found himself in Bombay. Living with non-Muslim roommates. He drove a taxi. Outwardly normal inwardly troubled. He felt the loss of his family. His purpose in life was unclear. His quest for truth began. He looked to saints and mystics. But none filled his needs.

In 1953 he met Hazrat Khwaja Sufi Mohammad Hasan Shah. A profound meeting. Mansur-ul-Hasan Shah became his disciple. He was granted Khilafat and Ijaazat. He established Dargah Qutbul-u-Auliya. It started as a single room. It grew to accommodate many followers. Zikar-o-Fikr Namaz. Housing for guests. Langer Sama Khana. A relic chamber.

Hazrat Mansur-ul-Hasan Shah’s contribution to the Sufi tradition is immense. He was denied victory in war but won hearts. He wept for his lost family. He gained a new one disciples. He passed on March 30 1996. His spiritual presence remains. His grandson Hazrat Sufi Wasim-ur-Rahman Shah is his successor. He oversees the annual Urs Sharif.

Dargah Qutbul-u-Auliya continues its mission. It’s a place of solace. Of spiritual growth. A testament to faith. A legacy of a remarkable man. A reminder that even amidst turmoil there is hope. There is peace. There is Dargah Qutbul-u-Auliya.
