Unveiling Dankou, a place known as the home of bamboo and wood, is our next stop. Dankou sits in Chengbu Miao Autonomous County. It is a rural town in Hunan, China. Let’s delve into Dankou’s story. As of 2015, Dankou had a population of 25800. The town covers an area of 286 square kilometers. This includes 269 square kilometers of land. 17 square kilometers are water. Dankou is surrounded by several towns and townships. Guanxia Town borders it to the north. Chang’anying Town lies to the west. Dingping Township is to the south. Rulin Town is to the east.

The history of Dankou is interesting. In 1995, four townships merged. These were Dankou, Yangshi, Liuzhai, and Pinglin. Together, they formed the Dankou Town we know today. This merger created a larger, more unified community.

Administratively, Dankou is divided into communities and villages. Xiatuan Community is the main community. There are also fifteen villages. These include Qianjin, Shuangshun and Qianzhou. You can also find Pingnanzhai, Taolin, Bianxi and Yongping. Xian’e, Qunwang, Yangshi and Shazhouyanmen are also villages. Further are Qingtong, Xinshi, Dankou, Gonghe and Hualong. Rounding out the list are Jinyan, Taiping, Beixi, Shuanglong, Longzhai, Yangliu and Dongtoushan. Each village has its own unique character. Each contributes to Dankou’s diverse identity.

The geography of Dankou is remarkable. It lies in the southwest of Chengbu Miao Autonomous County. The Wushui River flows through the town. This river adds to the scenic beauty of the area. The highest point is Mount Niupotou. It stands 1913 metres above sea level. This provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Dankou experiences a subtropical monsoon climate. The average annual temperature is 23 degrees Celsius. This mild climate supports the lush vegetation. It also makes Dankou a pleasant place to visit year-round.

The people of Dankou are diverse. Miao people form the largest ethnic group. They make up 63.95% of the population. Other ethnic groups include Dong, Yao, Hui and Manchu. Han people account for 17.05% of the population. The remaining 12.79% are Dong, Yao, Hui and Manchu. This mix of cultures enriches Dankou’s social fabric.

Dankou’s economy thrives on local products. Citrus, Myrica rubra and bamboo shoots are famous. Gastrodia elata and honeysuckle are also important. These products contribute to the town’s prosperity. They also showcase the region’s natural resources.

A notable attraction in Dankou is the former residence of Lan Yu. Lan Yu was a general in the early Ming Dynasty. His birthplace is now a historical site. It offers a glimpse into the life of this important figure. Another scenic spot is Baishuidong Waterfall. It is also known as the Waterfall of White Water Hole.
