Imagine a shimmering expanse reflecting the sky. This is Dammemose.

Dammemose is a lake in Denmark. It spans 5.1 hectares. That is roughly 12.6 acres.

Fishing in Dammemose is a cherished activity. However it is exclusively for members of Bornholms Sportsfiskerforening. Guests are not allowed. Buying a fishing license for this specific spot is impossible.

Sten Stender owns most of Dammemose in Klemensker. He was a junior member of the Bornholm Sports Fishing Association’s junior department Laxene. Perhaps this sparked his desire to grant fishing rights to the association.

Niels Fastrup signed an agreement on October 8 2019. It secured fishing rights for almost the entire lake from May 1 2020. A map shows restricted areas where fishing and access are prohibited. However passage is allowed by the horse paddock between the fence and the lake without fishing.

Anglers must be cautious not to startle the horses in the paddock.

Several rules govern fishing in Dammemose. Membership cards must be visible. They must be presented upon request. The card must be a valid fishing license from the Danish Sports Fishing Association.

Dammemose is closed for fishing during April. This protects the spawning period for pike. Fishing is also prohibited on May 16 and 17 due to buck hunting.

During the first 14 days of November anglers should avoid fishing at dusk to respect duck hunting. Fishing is allowed with a rod and line only. Each angler may use a maximum of two rods at a time.

All fish must be handled carefully. Pike must be released immediately. Perch over 1 kg must also be released. This helps maintain the lake’s biological balance.

Feeding is allowed but moderation is important. It should only occur on the fishing day. This limits nutrient input into the lake.

Members of the Bornholm Sports Fishing Association may set up a tent or bivouac by the lake. This is allowed only in designated areas. Activity in front of the horse paddock must be minimized. This prevents disturbance to the animals.

Fishing with self-fishing gear is prohibited. This includes nets longlines and more. Only rod and line are permitted. Releasing juvenile fish or eggs is forbidden. Using fish or baitfish from other freshwaters is also not allowed.

Members should check membership cards. They should monitor compliance with fishing regulations. They should also prevent illegal fishing.

The Bornholm Sports Fishing Association must park in designated areas. Access is granted via fields and farm roads along the lake.

Members are responsible for respecting nature. They must respect other users of the Dammemose area. This is in accordance with agreements with landowners. They must ensure no lines hooks or other waste are left behind.

So Dammemose is more than just a lake. It is a carefully managed ecosystem. It is a place where fishing is a privilege. It is a responsibility shared by those who enjoy its waters.
