He unveils large-scale tectonic deformation processes. He uses structures preserved in Earth’s crust and mantle. These structures are observed on small scales.

Dahui Jiang integrates fieldwork. He uses laboratory microstructural and texture analysis. Numerical modeling is also used in his research. This approach provides a link between structural geology and tectonics. Dr Jiang’s work focuses on Earth’s lithosphere.

Dahui Jiang developed a micromechanical approach. It models multi-scale fabric development. This happens during the deformation of the heterogeneous Earth’s lithosphere. Currently his group applies the approach to field areas. These areas are in the Canadian Shield. They are also in the Central Orogenic Belt of China. The North China Craton is also one of the field areas.

Dahui Jiang is a Distinguished Professor at Northwest University in China. He supervises graduate students there. His selected publications include works on pressure variations. These variations are among rheologically heterogeneous elements. This is in Earth’s lithosphere. He also explores the significance of pressure dependence of the activation enthalpy. This relates to the quartz flow law.

His research extends to viscous inclusions in anisotropic materials. He investigates their theoretical development and perspective applications. Another area is an optimal scheme for numerical evaluation. This evaluation is of Eshelby tensors. This is implemented in a MATLAB package. It simulates the motion of viscous ellipsoids in slow flows.

Dahui Jiang has contributed to understanding rapid changes. These changes are from compression to extension. This occurred in the North China Craton during the Early Cretaceous. This is evident from the Yunmengsham metamorphic core complex. He has also worked on a self-consistent model. This model is for multiscale deformation and fabric development. This development occurs in Earth’s ductile lithosphere.

Dr Jiang also researches the formation of micafish. This is a modeling investigation based on micromechanics. He investigates small-scale ductile shear zones. These zones act as transposed rheologically weak domains. These topics show Dahui Jiang’s expertise.

At Western University, Dr Jiang teaches structural geology. He also teaches advanced field mapping techniques. He supervises senior theses. Another course is the flow of rocks in the crust and mantle. Dr Jiang has also taught short courses at Northwest University. He held courses at the University of Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. These courses covered continuum micromechanics. He also taught multiscale modeling.

Dr Dazhi Jiang seeks Ph.D. and M.Sc. students. These students will work on projects in the Canadian Cordillera and East China. The projects aim to understand microstructures of mylonites. Another project aims to understand the tectonic evolution of East China. This evolution has occurred since the late Cretaceous. This relates to the thinning of the North China Craton.
