Gazing at the Dafapu Main-Line Bridge, have you ever wondered about its connection to a larger marvel? The Dafapu Main-Line Bridge is an integral part of the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link. This impressive bridge-tunnel system spans the Pearl River Delta, linking Shenzhen and Zhongshan. The Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link, including the Dafapu Main-Line Bridge, opened to traffic on June 30, 2024. This significantly reduced travel time between the two cities to under 30 minutes. The link comprises a series of bridges and tunnels, with the Dafapu Main-Line Bridge being a key component. The project began construction in May 2017 and represents a substantial investment of approximately 4.83 billion US dollars. It’s an eight-lane marvel, stretching 49.7 kilometers. Interestingly, the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link project was conceived after Shenzhen’s attempt to join the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge project failed. Initially proposed in 2008, the link faced delays due to concerns about its potential impact on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge. The Dafapu Main-Line Bridge stands as a testament to Shenzhen’s determination to enhance connectivity within the Pearl River Delta.
