What is a “Dachsberg” anyway? The name Dachsberge might sound amusing. It translates to “badger mountain”. However, there’s no mountain here, just a gentle rise. The Dachsberge in Frankfurt (Oder) is actually a small hill. It got its name from the badgers that once roamed freely here. The area was once a popular destination for outings. Locals and visitors alike enjoyed the fresh air and views. In 1992, the city decided to give the street leading to the Dachsberge an official name. They called it “An den Dachsbergen” which means “At the Dachsberge.” However, this created confusion. People couldn’t differentiate between “Dachsberge” and “An den Dachsbergen.” So in 1997, the city simplified things. They merged both names into just “Dachsberge”. Today, there are no house numbers on this street, as it primarily leads to a bungalow park. It’s a peaceful area. The Dachsberge stands as a reminder of Frankfurt (Oder)’s connection to nature.
