Construction of D1 Tower started in 2007. It opened in 2015. Enshaa developed D1 Tower. They purchased it from Emirates Sunland Group. Dubai Properties Group and Emirates Sunland Group developed the tower in a joint project. Holford Associates developed the architectural framework.
D1 Tower is adjacent to the Palazzo Versace Dubai. The D1 Tower shares a sisterly connection with the Q1 in Gold Coast, Australia. The Q1 is the world’s seventh tallest residential building. Both towers share a similar design. D1 is structurally shorter with a taller roof height. The Q1 has a roof height of 275 m. Its spire increases the total height to 323 m.
Innovarchi designed the facades of D1. Ken McBryde and Stephanie Smith were the directors. The facades enhance the tower’s form. They emphasize the layered glass curtain wall. The primary facades are a series of layers. These protect against the harsh environment. The timber canopy around the base is particularly striking. It is inspired by Dhow trading boat construction. Such construction once occurred on this very site. This undulating timber structure provides shade. It offers a threshold between the air-conditioned interior and the bright, hot exterior. It moderates between the high speed freeway scale. It also balances the urban landmark scale and the human scale.
Inside D1 Tower, you will find 526 apartment units. These include studios and one to six-bedroom apartments. Penthouses occupy the highest floors. The D1 Tower offers a range of amenities. There is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Relax in the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. A mini-market offers room delivery. There is a restaurant and a lounge with shisha on the ground floor.
