Opened in 1997, D. Bosco College Sports Centre isn’t just a place for sports. It’s a piece of Macau’s educational history. The Centre, spanning over 2,265 square meters, is part of the Colégio Dom Bosco (Yuet Wah) complex. This school, originally an orphanage called Asilo dos Orfaos, housed Portuguese orphans. In 1941, due to a lack of their own premises, these orphans shared space with Chinese orphans at the Immaculate Conception Orphanage. The foundation for Colégio Dom Bosco wasn’t laid until 1949, eventually opening partially in 1951. It offered vocational and technical training, significantly contributing to Macau’s technical education landscape. The school also housed the renowned “Little Singers of the Wooden Cross” choir, founded in 1959 by Fr. Cesare Brianza. This choir achieved international acclaim over nearly three decades. Now, D. Bosco College Sports Centre, with its indoor heated pool, artificial turf soccer field, and two gymnasiums, carries on the legacy. The public can access these facilities, though availability depends on the college’s schedule. This intertwining of education, history, and sport makes D. Bosco College Sports Centre more than just a sports facility. It’s a vibrant thread in the rich tapestry of Macau.
