Isn’t it amazing how organizations dedicated to preserving history often have fascinating stories themselves? Today, we’re standing before a place connected to the Daughters of the American Revolution or D. A. R.. This non-profit women’s service organization has a threefold dedication. It preserves American history. It promotes patriotism. And it secures the future through children’s education.

Founded in 1890, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, NSDAR or DAR, emerged as a powerful force. Its mission was clear. It aimed to honor ancestors who fought in the American Revolutionary War. It also promoted democratic and patriotic standards.

Here in Utah, the Utah State Society Daughters of the Revolution began in 1898. Initially, it was the Wasatch Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution. By November 16, 1898, it gained official recognition. The National Daughters of the Revolution, headquartered in New York City, extended this honor.

The Utah State Society Daughters of the Revolution records offer a glimpse into their activities. These records span from 1898 to 1984. They include minute books and membership admissions. You’ll also find financial records and correspondence. Biographies, scrapbooks, and other materials paint a vivid picture of the society’s work.

The society prided itself on impactful deeds. These extended beyond its membership. They supported public schools, the city, state, and nation. However, the chapter closed on October 13, 1977. This was due to declining membership.

The Uintah Chapter NSDAR was named for the High Uintahs. The High Uintahs are in the upper northeast corner of Utah. Seven members were present. There were thirteen chapter members listed. The organization was on February 1, 1974, in Sandy, Utah. The Uintah Chapter meets in South Salt Lake City. They meet on most 2nd Saturday afternoons.

Another chapter, the Bald Eagle Chapter, NSDAR, was organized February 6, 1993. Since that time, the chapter has been committed to improving the communities of southern Utah. The Bald Eagle Chapter proudly sponsors yearly essay contests. These are for students in grades 9-12. They give the Good Citizens Award and Scholarship prizes.

Consider the vast collection of documents. Imagine the countless hours. These women dedicated themselves. They meticulously recorded minutes. They documented admissions and managed finances. They corresponded with others who shared their passion. They preserved biographies and compiled scrapbooks. All of this ensured that the stories of their ancestors would not be forgotten.

So, as you pass by, remember the Daughters of the American Revolution. They are committed to preserving the past. They promote patriotism. And they look forward to the future.
