Opened in 2006, Cypress Woods High School stands as a testament to the rapid growth of Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Cypress Woods High School was originally known as Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District High School #8. The burgeoning student population needed a new school, and Cypress Woods High School answered the call. The impressive 504,626-square-foot campus cost a hefty $50.9 million. Built by Pepper-Lawson Incorporated and designed by PBK, Cypress Woods High School sits on a sprawling 182-acre site. It provided much-needed relief to the overcrowded Cy-Fair High School and Cypress Falls High School. The first graduating class of Cypress Woods High School celebrated their commencement in 2009. The school opened its doors with approximately 140 staff members, including 100 teachers, ready to educate around 2,100 students. The students themselves played a role in shaping the school’s identity, choosing the Wildcats as their mascot. The school board later approved crimson and gold as the official colors, adding to the vibrant spirit of Cypress Woods High School. One notable alumnus is Black Wallace, who not only attended Cypress Woods High School but also embodied the spirit of the Wildcats as Chester the Wildcat mascot. Wallace’s journey began unexpectedly. A back injury sidelined his football aspirations. Determined to stay connected to the game, he donned the mascot suit and found a new passion. From a nervous freshman who forgot his clothes at his first powder puff game performance, Wallace transformed into a confident, energetic mascot, bringing joy to the Cypress Woods High School community. His dedication even led to scholarship offers from universities like Clemson, University of Houston, and Texas Tech, eager to welcome Chester’s infectious enthusiasm to their campuses.
