Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the mighty Cypress Park High School, rising up with the energy of its mascot, the tiger. Opened just recently in 2016, Cypress Park High School is the new kid on the block, aiming to make a big impact. Cypress Park High School is actually Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s eleventh high school. You’ll find it in the southwestern part of the district, a stone’s throw from Houston. The school had humble beginnings, starting with just freshmen in its inaugural year. Each year, a new grade level joined the ranks until Cypress Park High School housed all four grades. Today, the halls buzz with the energy of over 3,000 students, all striving towards the school motto: “Rise Up! Take Courage! Do It!”. And speaking of rising up, did you know the school was almost not built? The district purchased the land back in 2006. However, the economic downturn of the late 2000s forced them to put their plans on hold. Thankfully, as the student population in the district increased, so did the need for a new school. Cypress Park High School finally got the green light. Walking through its spacious hallways, you might not realize that Cypress Park High School sits on 592,000 square feet of land. The design of the school, a departure from previous Cypress-Fairbanks ISD high schools, features a three-story classroom wing, separate buildings for the cafeteria, utilities, and another for athletics and the arts. This place is more than just bricks and mortar; it’s a vibrant hub for young minds to learn, grow, and, most importantly, “Rise Up!”.
