Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Mumbai, lies a hidden gem, Cusrow Baug. It beckons us to uncover its secrets. Cusrow Baug stands as a testament to the Parsi community’s enduring spirit. This residential colony, nestled on Colaba Causeway, whispers tales of a bygone era. Cusrow Baug’s history is intertwined with the legacy of Jerbai Wadia. A remarkable woman who, after her husband’s passing, dedicated her inheritance to building five residential colonies for Parsis in need. Cusrow Baug, one of these five “baugs,” began its life in 1934. The final residential blocks were completed in 1959. The colony was designed by the English architect Claude Batley. He envisioned a haven where families could thrive. Cusrow Baug isn’t just a collection of buildings. It’s a microcosm of Parsi culture. Within its walls, you’ll find the Seth Nusserwanji Hirji Karani Agiary, a Zoroastrian fire temple. Its holy fire, first lit in 1847, found its final home in Cusrow Baug in 1935. The colony also boasts a computer center, a gymnasium, and a sports club, the Sir Cusrow Wadia Pavilion, opened in 1959. The Cusrow Baug United Sports and Welfare League fosters community spirit through various activities. Even the layout of Cusrow Baug tells a story. The residential blocks are alphabetically labeled, from A to U. Interestingly, letters I, L, N, and O are missing. This quirk adds to the unique character of the Baug. Cusrow Baug offers more than just shelter. It offers a sense of belonging. A place where traditions are preserved. A place where community thrives. The houses within Cusrow Baug are not for sale. They are only available for rent. This ensures that the Baug remains a sanctuary for the Parsi community. A place where history and heritage intertwine. A place where stories continue to unfold. Cusrow Baug, a timeless treasure in the heart of Mumbai, invites you to explore its rich tapestry.
