A serene oasis in the midst of a bustling suburban landscape, Cullinan Park offers an escape into nature. It is a sprawling 754-acre park, a gift from the Nina Cullinan estate, who wished for a “place of beauty and peacefulness.” The park was established in 1989 with funding from the City of Houston and donations from the Brown Foundation and Ms. Cullinan’s estate. Its origin goes back even further, to 1828, when Alexander Hodge, a member of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” settlers, first claimed the land. In 1991, Cullinan Park opened to the public. Today, Cullinan Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, providing a sanctuary for nature lovers and a vibrant spot for community events. It’s home to two beautiful lakes, White Lake and Pumpkin Lake, and offers miles of trails for hiking and biking. Birdwatchers will find Cullinan Park a paradise, as it lies within the Katy Prairie Loop – a key destination for birding enthusiasts. Cullinan Park is much more than just a park. It is a testament to the vision of Nina Cullinan, a reminder of the rich history of the region, and above all, a beautiful space for people to connect with nature and each other.
