A breath of fresh air. That’s what I felt stepping into Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park. This isn’t just any park. It’s Beijing’s only national-level urban wetland park a true oasis in the bustling city.
Imagine a place where the air is cleaner than the city center. Cuihu offers that. The PM2.5 levels here are a mere 20% of what you find downtown. That’s a startling difference. It’s a testament to the park’s role in improving the environment.
Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park is huge. Spread across 1 570 000 square meters. Its water area alone covers 900 000 square meters. That’s a lot of water teeming with life.
This isn’t just a pretty face. Cuihu is a thriving ecosystem. Hundreds of wild water birds call it home. You can spot 178 species. The vegetation is equally impressive. There are 264 genera and 371 species of plants. Some are native others cultivated. It’s a remarkable biodiversity.
Unlike Beijing’s other forest parks Cuihu features a unique wetland forest landscape. Water flows through the forest. Forest surrounds the water. It’s a beautiful combination of both ecosystems. A truly impressive sight.
This remarkable place is easily accessible. Located in Shangzhuang Town Haidian District. It’s about 30 kilometers from the city center. You can spend half a day exploring its beauty. Best to visit in spring or autumn though.
The park is free to enter but you will need a reservation. A small price to pay for such tranquility. Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park offers a special experience. It combines the natural beauty of a wetland with the convenience of an urban location. It is a place to escape from the city. A place to appreciate nature and its biodiversity. A place to breathe.
