Construction began in May 1930. It was a bold undertaking. The dam’s concrete gravity design was innovative for its time. Local volcanic rock became the aggregate. This ensured the dam’s strength. The \u00c7ubuk I Dam cost 2.32 million TRY.
In April 1936, the \u00c7ubuk I Dam was inaugurated. Atat\u00fcrk himself was present. The dam was 25 m tall and 900 m long. Its reservoir held 1,200 m3 of water. The surface area stretched across 1 km2. The circular axis of 200 m added to its stability. The \u00c7ubuk I Reservoir became a popular spot for recreation.

In recent years, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality worked diligently. The goal was to make the \u00c7ubuk I Dam functional again. They aimed to hold water up to 50 percent of its capacity. The dam would then assist with agricultural irrigation.
