“What started as a daunting task blossomed into a pillar of hope.” This is the story of Crosspoint Community Church in Pearland. Lead Pastor Tom Allen felt called to plant a church. He had never done it before. It was clear what he was supposed to do.
Crosspoint Community Church began its journey meeting in a local middle school. This was before opening its first building in 2002. The church experienced significant growth. It expanded to two services then three. Soon the facility became too small.
The church needed more space. However, funds were limited for building. In 2010, Crosspoint moved back to Turner High School. They waited for a permanent solution. The land next to their original building became available. The asking price was 2.2 million dollars. Crosspoint could not afford it.
Unexpectedly the property got foreclosed. The bank agreed to sell it for 400000 dollars. The church seized the opportunity. Construction began on a new facility. This is now the current home of Crosspoint Community Church.
In 2013, the new facility opened at 1134 Old Alvin Road. A new kids building was added in 2017. Crosspoint also launched Next Generation Academy. This is a private preschool. It was created to meet a community need.
Crosspoint Church became a shelter during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. It provided refuge for those impacted by the storm. The church partnered with Samaritan’s Purse. Together they helped rebuild homes in Pearland. The church served the community. It became the first shelter to open its doors.
Today Crosspoint continues its community outreach. They use the Samaritan’s Purse building. Ministries like Hearts for the Homeless and Fostering Hope operate there.
In 1997, another church was founded that would be named CrossPoint Community Church. CrossPoint Community Church and Emmaus Road Katy merged in 2016. Together they became CrossRoad Church. One church member said that this church is different. Pastor Paul Goeke said this illustrates the heart of CrossRoad.
CrossPoint Community Church in Katy sought to be “the community church for those who don’t have a church home”. The addition provides a 1200-seat interim sanctuary and new children’s wing. The multi-purpose sanctuary accommodates worship services, basketball, concerts, theater, and large community gatherings. Large windows provide abundant natural light but can be darkened for video use. Glass garage doors connect the sanctuary to a light-filled gathering space that overlooks a memorial garden and courtyard. Metal siding and panels give the church and school a fresh and compelling community image.
