In the heart of Amman, the Criminal Information Department stands as a silent sentinel. It has witnessed the evolution of Jordan’s pursuit of justice. The Criminal Information Department’s story began in 1923. It was originally called the Criminal Investigation Department. It has undergone a series of transformations. These reflect the changing security landscape of Jordan. In 1948, the department split into two units. Just five years later, they reunited as the General Investigation Department. More changes came in 1961. The department was again divided into two sections. This restructuring aimed to enhance its effectiveness. In 1968, it became the Criminal Investigation Branch. The Foreigners and Borders Department became a separate entity. The 1970s brought further evolution. The Anti-Narcotics section spun off to form its own department in 1973. The following year, the Criminal Information Department was resurrected. It replaced the Criminal Investigation Branch. The department continued to adapt. In 1995, the Criminal Laboratory Department was established independently. The Arab and International Police Department followed suit in 1997. A pivotal moment arrived on February 1, 1998. The department officially became the Criminal Information Department. It was placed under the Assistant Judicial Police. The Criminal Information Department now focuses on maintaining a comprehensive database. This contributes to security and preserving rights. The department provides vital security services and information to law enforcement. Its advanced security information system helps reduce crime. The Criminal Information Department is not just a building. It represents Jordan’s commitment to justice and security in a complex world.
