From a trickling spring in Auchy-lez-Orchies, the Courant de l’Hôpital begins its journey. This unassuming waterway, barely a whisper at its source, meanders for nearly 30 kilometers before finally reaching Mortagne-du-Nord. The Courant de l’Hôpital has been known by many names. Some call it the Rivière le Décours, while others refer to it as the Canal du Décours. Still others know it by more evocative names like Courant du Gros Caillou, Courant du Rosuelle, or Courant de l’Épau. Each name carries a piece of its story, a reflection of its journey through the landscape. The Courant de l’Hôpital, in its entirety, paints a picture of the region’s intimate connection with its waterways. It served as a vital artery, shaping the lives and livelihoods of those who lived along its banks.
