“County Prep High School: A place where futures are shaped.” Let’s step inside this magnet high school located in Jersey City. County Prep High School is a full-time public school for students in ninth through twelfth grades. It operates as part of the Hudson County Schools of Technology.

County Prep High School once had a thriving sports program. However, budget cuts in 2010-11 eliminated sports teams. Students can still compete for their home school districts. Despite this setback, County Prep has seen sports success. The 2010 boys’ track team became Tri-County Champions. The girls’ tennis team had an impressive run with 70 consecutive Seglio Division match wins. In 2007, the girls’ tennis team even won a state sectional championship. The boys’ baseball team won the 2009 North II Group I NJSIAA State Sectional Title.

The principal of County Prep High School is Barbara Mendolla. The school also offers alternative programs. Career Academy is an alternative high school. It starts after 3 PM and provides dinner. The principal for Career Academy is John Holoduek. There’s also the Adult High School or AHS. It runs from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday to Thursday. Students need 110 credits to graduate.

County Prep High School has received recognition for its achievements. In 2020, it was honored as a National Blue Ribbon School. Schooldigger.com ranked County Prep High School 184th out of 381 public high schools in 2011. This was based on the High School Proficiency Assessment.

Niche.com gives County Prep High School an overall grade of A. It earns high marks for diversity, teachers, and college prep. The graduation rate is impressive at 98%. The average SAT score is 1170. For ACT, it is 26. Students feel safe and happy at County Prep High School. Most students agree that there are plenty of clubs and organizations to get involved in.
