Peeking from behind the trees, Cougar Softball Stadium emerges. It stands as a testament to the University of Houston’s commitment to athletic excellence. This stadium is more than just a field; it’s a stage where dreams are realized. It’s a place where the crack of the bat echoes with the cheers of loyal fans.

Completed before the 2002 season, the Cougar Softball Stadium cost $2.4 million. John and Rebecca Moores, UH alumni, generously donated to make it possible. Located on the corner of Scott and Elgin Streets, next to the Carl Lewis Complex, it is easily accessible.

The stadium boasts a press box with separate radio and television booths. It also has home locker rooms and laundry facilities. The NCAA-regulation field features a top-quality infield and outfield. Comfortable chairback seating accommodates up to 1,200 softball fans in the lower bowl. Concession areas and accessible parking add to the convenience.

In 2018, Cougar Softball Stadium enhanced the player facilities. A 5,600 sq-ft indoor facility was added. It replaced the old hitting facility. This indoor facility features five batting cages with retractable nets. Before the 2015 season, all seats in the lower bowl were replaced with new chairbacks and cup holders. Also before the 2018 season, an LED Daktronics video board was installed.

According to Daktronics, the video board is the fifth largest at an on-campus softball stadium in the country. It’s also the largest in Texas. The board sits beyond the left-field wall. It measures 29-feet-3.1-inches tall and 24-feet-4.0-inches wide. It offers 576 square feet of space for live video, replays, stats, and sponsor messages.

The stadium is equipped and handicapped accessible. It provides 35 seating spaces for wheelchairs along the concourse level. Two wide ramps on each side of the park make access convenient. Protective nets ensure fan safety from foul balls.

During practice, the Cougars can take advantage of the covered batting cages. The Cougars’ clubhouse includes large, professional-style locker rooms. Current players enjoy flat screen TVs and a dining and lounge area.

Cougar Softball Stadium has hosted several post-season events. These include one NCAA Regional, one Super Regional, two C-USA Championships, and the inaugural American Athletic Conference Tournament. The all-time best crowd of 1,793 came against No. 4 Alabama in March 2014.

This stadium is a testament to the enduring appeal of college softball. It reflects the spirit of competition and community. As you leave Cougar Softball Stadium, remember the dedication and passion that define this remarkable venue.
