“Furchtlos und treu!” The motto of Corps Hasso-Borussia Freiburg echoes through the years. Right here before you stands the very building that has witnessed generations of “Hessen-Preussen” or “HaBos” as they are known. This is more than just a fraternity house. It’s a living testament to a rich history.

Founded on June 12 1876 Corps Hasso-Borussia emerged from a group of inactive members from other Corps. These students studying in Freiburg formed an association. They called themselves Hasso-Borussen. Their goal was to establish a new Corps in Freiburg im Breisgau. Many were from Hesse. Their larger homeland became the Kingdom of Prussia after German unification. Their white red black and white colors with silver percussion are a visible part of their identity. A white striker is also worn. Their founding was officially recognised on June 20 1876.

The Corps’ history is not without its challenges. Suspensions by the university punctuated its early years. A physical altercation led to a suspension from June 13 to August 16 1888. Another suspension occurred in 1896. This time a replacement Corps Saxonia was even founded only two days before. The suspensions reflect the sometimes turbulent nature of student life in that era. Even the Nazi era impacted Corps Hasso-Borussia. The Corps suspended itself in 1935. It briefly reconstituted in 1936 before suspending again. The Second World War resulted in the loss of 43 members.

Despite these setbacks the Corps persevered. Its alumni association reactivated in June 1950. They began as a table community and helped in the reconstitution of the KSCV. On June 9 1951 the Corps officially resumed its name. Today Corps Hasso-Borussia continues to unite students and alumni. It serves as a reminder of the bonds of fraternity and the enduring spirit of its members. It maintains relationships with Corps Albertina Rhenania Würzburg and Teutonia Giessen. The building stands as a silent observer of these events a landmark of student life in Freiburg. It holds the memories of countless “HaBos” their achievements and their stories. So step inside and let the spirit of Corps Hasso-Borussia Freiburg captivate you.
