Let’s step back to June 1907. Sixteen individuals felt a calling. They were led by Rev Stanley Ross Fisher. They gathered in homes for worship. This small group established a church in southwestern Los Angeles.
They called it the Church of the Messiah Congregational. Initially, they met in temporary locations. Eventually, they settled at Washington Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue in Arlington Heights. Here, they constructed their first church home. For 47 years, the congregation thrived. God remained faithful through fellowship and ministry.
In 1954, a significant change occurred. Under Rev Dr Harry R Butman’s leadership, the Church of the Messiah relocated. They moved to Westchester on the corner of West Manchester and Rayford. Here, they built a sanctuary. This has been their home for the past 67 years. Over the decades, ten pastoral ministries have guided the church. Thousands have worshipped and served within these walls.
Today, the Congregational Church of the Messiah continues its mission. It strives to exalt God. It equips believers. It evangelizes the community. The church envisions revealing God. It aims to reconcile people to Him through Jesus Christ.
