Interestingly Congregation Shirat Hayam exists because of a merger. Temple Israel of Swampscott and Temple Beth El merged. The charter was signed in 2005. Temple Israel’s building was sold to the Town of Swampscott in 2006. From sadness and division a stronger community was formed. It stands as a testament to unity.
